De Alicia hoffmann
Illustrated by Rachel Echenique

This book describes the history of the larches and their relationship with humans in southern Chile. We chose as a witness to this story a larch that was born about 2.500 years ago in a forest near the coast, a tree that has survived major transformations in that region.

REVIEW

El alerce (2010), with text by Alicia Hoffmann and illustrations by Raquel Echeñique, shows this native tree that lives in the area between Valdivia and the island of Chiloé. The millennial larch has witnessed historical events that occurred in its territory at the same time as climatic disasters, earthquakes and floods, but there it is still haughty looking at the horizon and what happens in the cities and towns where human beings live. It is a very careful book in its edition. Due to its high aesthetic and informative value, this book was awarded the 2012 Colibrí Medal Award.
