REVIEW

"Flavors of America" is a plant guide, cookbook, and cultural history book all rolled into one. Nineteen types of fruits and vegetables are presented, all of which originated in the American continent and are now known throughout the world. Some of them are must-have staples like potatoes, corn, tomatoes, sunflowers, and squash. But a kitchen without vanilla or chili is no longer conceivable either. In short texts, plants are described and their historical importance is explained by examples. There are also delicious recipes on hand, for example spaghetti with peanuts, vanilla cookies or bean salad, which are easy to replicate. The humorous illustrations create an additional appetite for cooking and learning more about plants.
